Brightwend / Privacy
Privacy policy
In short
- We collect only what's needed to pick a good suggestion for you each day.
- We never collect your home address or live location, and we don't ask your gender. We keep only a rough area, about 7 miles across, never your ZIP code.
- We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
- You can change your answers any time, and delete your account whenever you like.
This policy covers the Brightwend website, web app and mobile apps (together, "Brightwend"). "We," "us" and "our" mean Agori Labs Inc.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your email address and first name, if you joined the waitlist. Your email and the town or ZIP code you type, if you use "Tell us the town" on our website | Only to tell you when Brightwend opens or arrives near you, and to send a note or two before then. Unsubscribe any time, or email [email protected] to be removed. |
| Your first name | So we can greet you, and so your family circle knows it's you. |
| Your Google account email, and any email address you add to your account | To sign you in, with Google or with a code we email you. If you turn on the morning email, we also send your daily suggestion to a verified email address you choose. |
| Your phone's notification address, if you turn on morning notifications | To send the morning notification to that phone through its browser's push service (Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft). The notification holds only the short suggestion. We delete the address when you turn notifications off, when the push service says it's no longer valid, or when you delete your account. |
| Your mobile number, only if you choose to add it later | To sign you in with a code and send the texts you've agreed to. Texts aren't switched on yet, and we don't ask for a number today. |
| Your ZIP code, and the areas you'd like to get out to | To find your nearest city and suggest places at a sensible distance. We keep only a rough area with your account, about 7 miles across. The ZIP code itself isn't kept, and we never ask for your street address. |
| Today's weather, weather warnings and air quality for your area | To suggest something indoors or at home on bad days. To look these up, we send the weather services (Open-Meteo and the US National Weather Service) your rough area, about 7 miles across, and nothing else about you. |
| How you like to get around, and how you travel | So we never suggest something that doesn't suit you. |
| Your interests, a good time of day, how long each suggestion should take, and whether you'd like free places only | To make each suggestion feel like yours and arrive when you want it. |
| The years you were born between, if you chose to answer this optional question | Only so our references land. |
| What you do with each suggestion: done, skipped, the reason you pick, your star rating, "Less like this", and places you say you'd go again | To get better at choosing for you, and to bring back places you loved. |
| How you're feeling, if you answer the optional check-in | To suggest something gentler that day. It's used only to choose that day's suggestion, and it isn't shared with your family. |
| A place you tell us was closed or wrong | So we can check it before sending anyone else, and so we don't send you back there for a while. |
| Notes, photos and voice notes you choose to save | To build your scrapbook, and to share with your circle if you ask us to. If you tick "Write it out for me", we send the recording to OpenAI to turn it into words (see "Who we share it with"). We may also look at a photo you add to keep our information about that place accurate; we don't share it when we do. |
| A photo you offer as the picture of a place | To show that place to other members, after someone here has checked it. It appears with the line "Photo from a Brightwend member" and never your name, and never with your words or voice notes. It's off unless you turn it on, one photo at a time, and you can take it back any time, in the app or by emailing [email protected]. We don't use it in advertising; if we ever want to, we'll ask you about that photo first. |
| The names of people in your family circle, and the Google account or email address they sign in with | So they can join from the link they were sent, and see what you share. |
| Reactions and notes your family writes on days you share, and the notes you write back | To show them to the people in that circle, and no one else. You choose which days to share when you keep them. To have a shared day taken down, email [email protected] and we'll remove it and what was written on it. If you delete your account, all of it is deleted. |
| Places your family picks for you, and surprise get-togethers they plan | To offer that place on the day they chose. You see who picked it, their note, and any time or ride offered. Who else is coming is kept between them. |
| Whether you've used Brightwend lately, only if you turn on check-in alerts | To send your family one gentle note after the number of quiet days you choose. We never use your location. You can turn it off any time. |
| Notes we send people in a family circle (check-in alerts, the Sunday family digest, milestones, picks and surprise plans) | Shown in the app for 60 days, and emailed when we have a verified email for that person (anyone can turn these emails off on the Family tab). The digest and milestones count only days that were shared, and list places, not your notes. If an account is deleted, notes about that person are removed. |
| If you buy a gift: your name and email, the name for the gift card, your message, and the recipient's email if you ask us to send it | To deliver the gift, and to tell you when it's opened. We don't use the recipient's email for anything else. |
| If you pay for Brightwend Family or buy a gift: your name and the mailing address you give when paying. This is the payer's address, not the address of the person who uses Brightwend. | Only to mail the welcome kit and the Year of Good Days book to you. We share it only with the companies that print and mail them. You can change it by writing to [email protected]. It isn't added to the Brightwend profile of the person who uses it, and they're never asked where they live, unless they buy Family for themselves and give their own address at checkout. |
| How people use the website and app: pages viewed, buttons pressed, the kind of device and browser | To see what's working and fix what isn't. We use PostHog and Google Analytics for this. Google Analytics sets a small cookie on our website to count return visits. We never send either one your name, email, phone number, gift codes or anything you write, and we don't keep your IP address. |
| Billing details, when you buy Brightwend Family | Payments are handled by our payment provider. We never see or store the full card number. |
| Basic technical information (device type, app version, crash reports) | To keep the app working. |
What we don't collect
- Your home address, if you use Brightwend. (We only ask the person paying where to mail the kit and book.)
- Your live or background location.
- Your ZIP code or street address with your account. (We keep only a rough area, about 7 miles across. The one place we keep a town or ZIP is "Tell us the town" on our website, if you use it.)
- Your gender.
- Contacts from your phone's address book, unless you pick someone to invite yourself.
Who we share it with
- Your family circle: only what you choose to share.
- Service providers who help run Brightwend, such as hosting, sign-in (Google and Apple), app notification, email and text delivery, payments, website analytics, the weather services that tell us about your area's forecast and warnings (they receive only your rough area, about 7 miles across), voice transcription by OpenAI, reached through our hosting provider Replit (only when you tick "Write it out for me", and we send only the recording), and Anthropic's Claude, which suggests a few lines you could write about a day ("Help me say it") and a few questions your family might ask about a day you share (we send your first name, the place and the words of your note or voice note, never your photos or recordings). They can use your information only to provide their service to us, under contract.
- The law: if we're legally required to, or to protect someone from serious harm.
- A new owner: if Brightwend or Agori Labs is ever sold or merged, this policy would continue to apply to your information.
We don't sell your personal information. We don't share it for advertising, and we don't let AI providers train their models on it.
Text messages. We don't sell, rent or share your mobile number, or your agreement to receive texts, with anyone for their own marketing. See the Text message terms.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete your information within 30 days. The only exceptions are records we're required to keep by law, such as billing records.
Your choices and rights
- Change your answers any time in the app.
- Delete a photo or voice note you've kept, and change a day's words until midnight that day.
- Take back a photo you offered as the picture of a place, any time, in the app.
- Ask for a copy of your information, or for a day you kept to be removed, by emailing [email protected]. We're building a way to do both in the app.
- Delete your account in the app (Help, then "Delete my account"), or email [email protected].
- Turn off the morning email or notification, or change the time it arrives.
We give these rights to everyone, whatever state you live in. We'll reply to requests within 30 days.
Security
We encrypt your information in transit and at rest, and limit which staff can see it. We never ask for a password: you sign in with Google, or with a code we email you. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects you, we'll tell you promptly.
Children
Brightwend is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
