Brightwend / Accessibility
Accessibility
Brightwend is built for people of every age and ability, so accessibility is part of the product itself. This page covers how the app and website are built. For the places we suggest, see Place information.
What's built in
- Three text sizes, chosen in Help, and the whole app follows them. The app also respects your phone's own text-size setting.
- Read it to me. On phones and browsers that can speak, the app reads today's suggestion out loud. It can also read your notes back to you.
- Hearing mode. No suggestion depends on sound. Anything the app wants to tell you flashes on the screen (and buzzes the phone, where the phone allows it), and places that say they can be loud or echoey are flagged before you go. Voice notes are written out: the app can write out the words for you if you agree, or you can type them yourself.
- Large buttons with plenty of space between them.
- Strong contrast between text and background, in light and dark mode.
- Screen reader support for VoiceOver and TalkBack, with every button labeled. Each new screen starts at its heading, and each one has its own page title.
- Works with a keyboard, with a clear outline on whatever is selected.
- A back button on every screen, and one decision per screen.
- Reduced motion. If your phone is set to reduce motion, the app does too.
How we check
On October 14, 2026 we checked every screen of the app and every page of this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
- Automated checks on every screen, in light and dark mode, at phone and computer sizes.
- Every screen used with a keyboard alone.
- Text at twice its normal size, and screens as narrow as 320 pixels.
- What a screen reader hears on the main screens.
We fixed what we found, and we check again as the app changes.
Our standard
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. Some parts may still fall short. If you find one, we want to hear about it.
