How suggestions are made

Last updated October 10, 2026

In short

  • A person approves every idea and every place. AI helps us word suggestions; it can't add a place or change one.
  • Every place is a real one, on a list we keep and update.
  • Every suggestion tells you why it was chosen for you.

1. Ideas are written, then reviewed by a person

Our team writes the ideas, like "Find the rose you'd plant if you had room for one more," with some help from AI for first drafts. Each idea goes into a review queue. A person on our team approves, edits or turns down each one. Nothing is published until someone has read it.

2. Places come from our list

Every place in Brightwend comes from a list we keep, with the address, phone number and the details the venue publishes about itself. A person on our team approves each place before it can be suggested. We check them against Google Maps and the venue's own website on a regular schedule. If you tell us a place was closed, we check it before sending anyone else.

3. Matching to you

Each morning we pick one approved suggestion that fits your interests, how you get around, how far it is from home, today's weather, and how long you said you have. It learns from what you enjoy, and "Less like this" steers it away from what you don't. AI helped our team draft the wording, and a person approved every idea and place before it was published. AI can't add a place or change one.

4. "Why this one"

Every suggestion comes with a short line explaining the choice, like Gardening · Wilmington · morning. If a suggestion doesn't make sense for you, tap "Not today" and tell us why. That's the most useful thing you can do to improve tomorrow's suggestion.

What suggestions are meant to be

  • Around half an hour or less, unless you say you have more time
  • Free or close to it
  • Something you can do on your own, though some are nicer with company
  • Something worth telling someone about afterwards

What our reviewers turn down

Before a suggestion can be published, our reviewers are asked to turn down any that ask you to:

  • Go into water, climb, use a ladder, or do anything strenuous
  • Drive, or travel far, unless you've told us that suits you
  • Go into anyone's home, or meet a stranger alone
  • Spend more than a few dollars, or buy anything from anyone
  • Give out personal or financial information
  • Stay outdoors for long in the middle of the day

If you see a suggestion that seems wrong, unsafe or unkind, tap "Not today" and tell us why, or email [email protected]. A person reads every report.
